Recyclers get their name because they “recycle” the smoke into a second chamber and bring it back in a loop that goes back through the original chamber- filtering the smoke over and over again. 

Benefits of the recycler design:

• The smoke spends a longer amount of time in contact with the water, allowing for the smoke to cool down and provides maximum filtration.
• Less air volume for the smoke to interact with, creating less space for the smoke to go stale.
• The air bubbles pop closer to the mouthpiece which maximizes the flavor of the smoke.
  
  

The dichroic glass of these pipes display multiple colors by undergoing a color change in certain lighting conditions. Multiple ultra-thin layers of different metals (such as gold or silver); oxides of such metals as titanium, chromium, aluminium, zirconium, or magnesium; or silica are vaporized by an electron beam in a vacuum chamber. The vapor then condenses on the surface of the glass in the form of a crystal structure. Modern dichroic glass is available as a result of materials research carried out by NASA, who developed it for use in dichroic filters. However, color changing glass dates back to at least the 4th century AD.
